The whole plant is used as an antidote for snakebites. The seed paste of Celosia Argentea has been effective in curing ovarian, uterine disease. rheumatoid arthiritis and fertility-regulation. The plants root, stem, leaf, flower and seeds are used in treatment of haemorrhoids, leucorrhea and profuse uterine bleeding.

Celosia Argentea is also known as woolflower and Rooster Comb, is a nutritious leafy green vegetable belonging to the amaranth family. Celosia is used as a food ingredient in Indonesia, India, northern South America, Mexico, Africa, the West Indies and Southeast Asia. The plant is a pseudo-cereal, its leaves, young stems and young inflorescences are used in cooking for its mild spinach like taste. The plant stems and leaves are used in forms of soups, sauces and stews.

Celosia flowers and seeds are astringent, haemostatic, ophthalmic, parasiticide and poultice used in the treatment of bloody stool, haemorrhoid bleeding, uterine bleeding, leucorrhoea, dysentery and diarrhoea. The Celosia seed is hypotensive and ophthalmic with additional antibacterial action used in the treatment of blood-shot eyes, blurring of vision, cataracts and hypertension.

The Celosia leaves are used in the treatment of infected sores, wounds and skin eruptions, while the roots are used in the treatment of colic, gonorrhoea and eczema. The Celosia seed oil is used for diarrhoea due to its antiscorbutic and anthelminthic characteristics.

Celosia trigyna plant is used in traditional medicines to treat sores, pustular skin eruptions, chest or heart pains, diarrhoea and menstrual cramps. The plant has anthelmintic properties, and its methanol extracts have acaricidal properties. The Celosia Trigyna leaves and flowers cures diarrhoea. costal pains, chest troubles, stomach-ache, urethral disorders, women’s disorders and diseases.

Celosia species is also used as an ornamental plant.
