Jasmine Rice

(0)

Jasmine rice is a long-grain variety of fragrant rice, reminiscent of pandan and popcorn. The first harvest is highly recommended by food connoisseurs, due to the rapid loss of aromatic intensity in the following harvests. Jasmine rice predominantly used in Thai and Vietnamese cuisines by restaurants worldwide, is not the traditional rice variety used in Indian, Chinese, or European dishes.

Description

Primarily grown in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, the jasmine rice gained itself prominence in international cuisine with its signature moist, soft texture and sweet flavor. The rice grains clings to each other, less sticky than glutinous rice, still three times stickier than the American long-grain rice.

The most sought-after Thai jasmine rice from Thailand has a slender shape and comes in two types viz., white and brown. There are three distinct Cambodian jasmine rice varieties viz., phka rumduol, phka romeat, and phka rumdeng.
